A frozen pipe can split and flood a room when it thaws. Lagging is cheap and quick to fit.

Pipes most at risk

  • Pipes in the loft, garage or outside walls.
  • Outside taps and their supply pipes.
  • Pipes near air bricks or vents.

What to do

Fit foam lagging to exposed pipes, fit a cover on outside taps and keep the heating on low when you are away in a cold spell.

If a pipe does freeze, thaw it gently with a hairdryer or warm towels, never with a flame.
